Phuket had long been on our travel list (a repeat for me and a first for my wife), and when I finally arrived, the island offered everything I’d remembered and my wife had hoped for—beautiful beaches, vibrant markets, and even a bit of tropical rain to keep things interesting. I stayed at The Beachfront Hotel on Rawai Beach, a quiet and scenic area where mornings began with the sound of gentle waves and views of long-tail boats drifting along the shore. It was the perfect base for exploring the island and had great french fries!
One of the most memorable days started at Andamanda Water Park. A monsoon arrived overnight and the sky opened up and the rain poured down. Instead of hiding under an umbrella, we decided to dive right in. Once we accepted that we were going to get wet anyway, the day became pure fun—racing down slides, splashing through the wave pool, and floating lazily along the river as warm rain rippled the surface. The rain had a silver lining, it kept the crowds away. With fewer people around, it felt like we had the park almost to ourselves. By the time we left, the rain had stopped and the sun peeked through, which allowed us to stay dry for our planned evening activity.

That evening, we made our way to Phuket Old Town. The streets were still glistening from the earlier rain, and the colorful Sino-Portuguese buildings looked even more vibrant under the soft glow of the evening lights. We wandered past murals, popped into small shops, and grabbed a casual dinner at one of the local cafés. The atmosphere was relaxed and charming, with a perfect balance of history and modern life—a beautiful contrast to Phuket’s busy beaches. That evening we ate at the China Inn Cafe and experienced a local Phuket dish known as Phuket Hokkien Noodles 🇹🇭🍜. It was delicious!

On another day, we spent the late morning and early afternoon exploring Jungceylon Mall in Patong. It was a nice break from the heat and humidity, offering everything from souvenirs to cozy cafés. After a few hours of browsing and cooling off indoors, we walked over to Patong Beach, just a few minutes away. The beach buzzed with energy—music playing, people parasailing, and vendors offering cold drinks and fresh fruit. We strolled along the shoreline, soaking in the lively vibe and watching the waves roll gently onto the sand.

That evening we headed to the Kata Night Market, which turned out to be a food lover’s paradise. The smoky aroma of grilled meat filled the air, and we couldn’t resist trying a baked potato cooked with a handheld burner until the skin was crisp, followed by a flavorful kebab wrap.
A stand out day in Phuket was our day trip to Phi Phi islands. We booked a catamaran tour that took us to Phi Phi islands, Maya beach, Monkey beach (with actual monkeys), and Khai islands. We got to go jet skiing, walk along beaches, snorkel in crystal clear water, and enjoy a good Thai food buffet.
We ended our trip at Nai Harn Beach, where waves and a dangerous riptide (courtesy of the monsoon) made swimming impossible but created a stunning, dramatic view. Standing on the sand, watching the surf crash under the gray sky, was a peaceful and fitting close to a trip full of beauty, variety, and a touch of spontaneity—everything that makes Phuket unforgettable.
